Support for Graduate Students

Graduate students are eligible for support in the way of Teaching Assistantships (TA), Research Assistantships (RA), Scholarships and Fellowships.

Assistantships

Assistantships come with a stipend and a tuition waiver and are available on a competitive basis to students participating in Biology graduate programs.  Please see the policies associated with your specific program within our Forms and Policies section for detailed information on eligibility requirements specific to your program.  International students requesting Teaching Assistantships must demonstrate proficiency in English.  Details can be found on the International Student and Scholar Services website.  All Teaching and Research Assistants must be registered for courses and processed by student employment prior to entry of their contracts.  For details on the hiring process, see Just Hired on the Student Employment webpage.

Scholarships

The Department of Biological Sciences offers a number of scholarships for biology graduate students.  The biology scholarships are awarded once per year in the fall semester.  Applicants must have completed at least one semester of graduate level coursework at FAU in order to be considered eligible to apply for these awards.  For detailed award criteria and deadlines, see our Biology Scholarships page.

Other FAU entities including Financial Aid, the  Graduate College, the FAU National Alumni Association, the Division of Research and the Graduate and Professional Student Association offer a variety of scholarships, fellowships, awards, travel funds and other support to students.  For more information, see their individual webpages.  Students are also encouraged to seek external funding through entities such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
