Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) Research Grant Award

Marianne Porter Sharks Dr. Marianne Porter was awarded a two year grant totaling $53,210 from the Save Our Seas Foundation for her project entitled "Migration mechanics: understanding swimming kinematics of a marine apex predator." She will work with Dr. Kajiura to study the swimming kinematics of blacktip sharks as they undertake their long distance migration along the US eastern seaboard.  They will take advantage of the large winter aggregations of blacktip sharks in the clear shallow waters off Palm Beach county to capture video footage of the sharks using aerial drones.  This footage will allow them to measure volitional swimming kinematics in the wild.
