In May 2022, Dr. Sean Williamson, our FAU Marine Laboratory Postdoctoral Fellow and the Manager of our Glenn W. and Cornelia T. Bailey Marine SEA Scholars program, will be giving a public talk as a part of the 2022 FAU Research In Action series. Sean will be talking about “Conserving turtles, from egg to sea”. He will discuss his previous research on embryonic development in sea turtle eggs, how this makes them sensitive to movement-induced mortality, and a novel technique he developed to protect embryos from dying when eggs are moved. Finally, Sean will discuss some of the more recent research on sea turtle ‘lost years’ he has been involved with here at FAU in collaboration with Professor Jeanette Wyneken and collaborators, Upwell Turtles. Lost years are the years of a sea turtle’s life between when a hatchling sea turtle enters the ocean from the beach and when it shows up as a juvenile on foraging grounds. Using tiny satellite tags, our research group and collaborators are starting to understand more about the mysteries of where turtles go during these supposed lost years.
The talk will be virtual and held on Zoom on Thursday, May 19th between 1-2 p.m. EST. To register for Sean’s talk you can use this link.
We look forward to seeing you on Zoom!
