2022 Three Minute Thesis Competition

Written by: Sam Trail. April 2022

900 universities, over 85 countries, but only 3 minutes!

2022 brings us Florida Atlantic University’s sixth annual participation in the Three Minute Thesis Competition (3MT) in which graduate students from all disciplines present their research in 3 minutes or less with a single visual slide. A difficult measure of clear science communication!

Each year the FAU Marine Lab has a strong showing in the university’s competition with several students winning preliminary heats and even the entire competition (most recently in 2017: Boris Tezak with his talk entitl e d "Sea Turtle Sex Ratios in a Changing Climate"). The competition this year is presented in a virtual format where students and the public can vote for their favorite talk.

This year, the FAU Marine Lab is represented by Ph.D. student Aubrey Clark from the Florida Atlantic Biomechanics (FAB) Lab. In her talk cleverly entitled: “What Do We “Nose” About Sharks: Investigating Olfactory Morphology of Elasmobranchs.” The 3MT winner will be announced at the end of the month and will receive a $1500 scholarship award sponsored by the Dr. Eric Shaw 3MT Championship Award Endowment Fund. Best of luck Aubrey!
