Doctoral Graduate Student
Ivana Serra is a graduate student pursuing her doctorate under Dr. Wyneken. During Ivana’s master’s research, she investigated how incubation temperatures affect the cognitive ability of loggerhead sea turtles post-hatchling. In this research, loggerhead eggs were incubated under "cool" and "hot" female producing temperatures so that the resulting hatchlings could be trained in a y-maze. Currently, Ivana is interested in studying the biomechanics and hydrodynamics of sea turtle shells. Specifically, Ivana would like to investigate how whole shells react to compressive forces and possible ontogenetic effects. When Ivana is not at the lab, she can be found hanging out with her two Jack Russells, spending time outdoors (kayaking, camping, and hiking), as well as weightlifting.
