The Glenn W. and Cornelia T. Bailey SEA Scholars program is the brainchild of Dr. Wyneken. For her, this is a vision come to fruition. Dr. Wyneken created the SEA Scholars program to build teams of talented students to explain science to broad audiences in various ways. She hopes that FAU Marine Lab visitors walk away with an understanding of the importance of marine science research and how it is relevant to our lives. Conveying the importance of scientific pursuit, and the “what, how, and why” of marine science, as well as of her research findings, to a large audience is a personal mission. Dr. Wyneken’s research investigates the impacts of local environmental conditions on sea turtle development, sex ratios, and dispersal. She shares her study results with regulatory agencies and other scientists to promote sea turtle conservation. When Dr. Wyneken is not in the lab, she is usually writing, working on her computer, and finding the time to explore new recipes. While Dr. Wyneken is not a student, she insists that she will never be finished learning! |
