MIC in collaboration with FAU career center and OWL-MA NRSS hosted an informational session with USDA on March 27th 2024.
Dr. Chris LaBorde, Director of Agricultural research at US sugar corporation, Dr. Matt Rouse, Research leader at USDA ARS Canal point and Mr. Thomas Badilla, USDA liaison along with FAU career center directors Ms. Jennifer Fabricius and Ms. Kelly Nielsen held a Q&A session with MIC participants and interested graduate and undergraduate students.
We were able to meet with incredible scientists and learn how they are operating multiple projects regarding sugar health, viability and creation of new strains at such a tremendous magnitude. We took a tour around the fields of sugar canes and occasionally stopping to discuss the different stages of their experiments before being implemented for mass production.
